Graeme Wilcox

We are delighted to be including paintings by Graeme Wilcox, an exciting 21st century painter.  Essentially a traditional figurative painter Graeme has also collaborated on a number of multi-media projects with Mischief-la-bas-performance group, also with other artists, culminating in projects at the Arches and Tramway in Glasgow and the Albany Theatre in London. Graeme has organised two large scale mural projects in collaboration with the East End Community Arts for Glasgow Health Board and devised and ran "Face to Face" photography project in Glasgow. This Arts Council funded project culminated in a temporary public artwork at the East End Festival in Glasgow.  He is a regular exhibitor at the BP Portrait Award and last year he was a Prizewinner at Visual Art Scotland, Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh. 2012. In 2011 he completed a prestigious portrait commission for the newly opened Conway Hall in London.

His work, technically traditional, has a powerful contemporary feel, depicting underlying tensions between animation and stillness. He is able to portray the transient, blurred image of one moving figure and at the same time, engage in precise photographic representation of another.

Graeme attended Glasgow School of Art 1989 - 93 and graduated with a BA (Hons). The Medici Gallery has exhibited Graeme's paintings for the past twelve years and during this time he has become one of the gallery’s leading figurative painters. Since graduating, Graeme has been working in the WASPS studios in the East End of Glasgow.
